Rewrite or refactor — which do you recommend?
Almost always: neither in isolation. Big-bang rewrites fail far more often than they succeed, and endless refactoring never escapes the old constraints. I use strangler-fig migrations — new services take over one capability at a time, so you get modern components in production within weeks, not years.
Can you modernize without downtime?
Yes — that's the point of incremental migration. Traffic shifts gradually behind stable interfaces, every step has a rollback path, and the legacy system stays available until its replacement has proven itself in production.
What legacy technologies have you migrated from?
Aging PHP and Symfony platforms, legacy Python services, monolithic CMS-coupled backends and hand-rolled integrations. The source technology matters less than the approach: understand the domain, carve out seams, migrate incrementally.
How long does a legacy modernization project take?
The assessment takes two to four weeks and gives you a roadmap with real estimates. Full migrations run from a few months to a couple of years depending on scope — but with an incremental approach you see value in production from the first milestone.
